Executive Functioning Training
If I have the availability, I can provide executive functioning coaching, either as a stand-alone treatment or as an add-on to your work with another psychotherapist. If you already have a psychotherapist, I will coordinate with them so we manage your care effectively. Here are some of the difficulties that I can help you with:
- Education about ADHD, so you can collaborate more effectively as a partner in your treatment
- Time management, including getting out of the house in a timely manner
- Project management
- Calendars and appointments
- Keeping track of tasks and getting them done
- Keeping track of personal items and details
- Working to your potential
- Self-management with respect to TV, video games and the internet
- Priorities and timetables
- Difficulties coping with finances, food, chores and exercise.
- Sleep difficulties
- Management of health care
You may be wondering what the advantages are to working with a psychologist rather than someone billing themselves as an ADHD coach:
- Qualifications: Psychologists are highly trained mental health professionals who possess many years of accredited training, doctoral degrees in clinical psychology, and licenses from the state. No one can legally call themself a “psychologist” without these credentials. However, anyone can call themself a “coach” with no training or qualifications whatsoever.
- Affordability: Psychologists are licensed healthcare professionals. As such, your health insurance will cover your sessions for ADHD, as it would for any other mental health concern. You would pay the entire fee for a coach, with no insurance reimbursement possible, because they are not licensed healthcare professionals.
- Effective Care: Psychologists are trained social scientists and understand how to interpret the latest mental health research to help you most effectively with your ADHD.
